Education can be a very stressful process, arguably. But combining academic work with a career as daunting as music makes it even more exhilarating, to say the least.

If wishes were horses, Gyakie would have ridden her way out of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, with her certificate intact.

The afrobeat singer says her early days on campus felt normal, “because I didn’t know this was how the attention was going to get.”

But as more heads begin to turn her way, she is faced with a hurdle associated with stardom.

“When people started to give me the attention, now I need to divide my focus to music and to school. Here is the worse part. I am reaching a certain level each time in my music. The attention is getting bigger and I’m also getting to the most difficult part in school,” she said on E-Vibes.

The choices are not getting any easier for the final year International Business student especially as she now has to undertake “[school] project, and defend it, also I’m about to graduate school so you need to be focused on the books. Otherwise, your graduation will be stalled.”

Gyakie may not be the first creative to find herself in this predicament but the speed with which she was shot to fame through her ‘Forever’ song makes her case an interesting one.

But she is poised and though her real interest lies in the music, a lot of her focus is on the academics as well “so it has gotten very difficult but I am almost done.”
