The Tertiary Education Workers Union of Ghana (TEWU-GH) and the Technical Universities Workers Association of Ghana (TUWAG) have officially clarified their stance on reports of an ongoing strike, affirming that their unions are not involved in the industrial action.

In a press statement issued by the national leadership of both unions, the organisations addressed the confusion surrounding the strike, which they said had  prompted numerous inquiries from their members and the general public.

“We wish to categorically state that our unions are not on strike,” the statement read. “The ongoing strike action is primarily related to the Ghana Education Service (GES) and does not involve TEWU-GH, TUWAG, or workers in Ghana’s public and technical universities.”

The leadership of the two unions, representing workers across public universities and technical universities in Ghana, urged their members to remain calm and continue discharging their duties as usual. They reassured members of their commitment to providing timely updates on any relevant developments or issues.

TEWU-GH National Chairman Sulemana Abdul-Rahman and TUWAG National President John Ayarik Alateng signed the statement, expressing gratitude for the loyalty and support of their members.

This clarification aims to dispel misunderstandings and ensure the smooth functioning of tertiary institutions across the country during this period of heightened public attention on labour issues.

The unions reaffirmed their dedication to building a strong and vibrant workforce within Ghana’s tertiary education system.
