The ongoing strike by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) is affecting examinations in some public universities, with the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) and other institutions reportedly suspending scheduled papers.
GAUA said the disruptions stemmed from its industrial action over what it described as widening disparities in Market Premium and related allowances between Teaching Senior Members and Non-Teaching Senior Members.
Speaking to an Accra-based TV station on Sunday, August 16, 2026, GAUA General Secretary, Charles Aidoo, said some universities scheduled to begin examinations this week could face further disruptions.
“Some of the universities are writing their exams tomorrow, and there may be some disruptions in our universities. We are told in UHAS, for example, the examination has been suspended. In some other universities, the examination has been suspended,” he said.
Charles Aidoo also raised concerns about the procedures being followed by some institutions in conducting examinations during the strike.
“There are a lot of procedural errors,” he said, arguing that universities are required to follow specific procedures when organising examinations.
He said information available to GAUA suggested that some of these processes had been sidelined, raising concerns about the integrity of examinations being conducted.
“We want to tell the general public that the integrity of the examinations being conducted in our universities is questionable because the procedures and the processes leading to the examinations have been sidelined,” he added.
GAUA’s strike has disrupted some academic activities in public universities as the association continues to push for a review of what it considers unfair disparities in allowances between teaching and non-teaching senior members.
The association’s concerns could further affect the academic calendar if the dispute remains unresolved.
