The Quiet Dignity of a former First Lady, Mrs. Theresa Kufuor

The end (on earth) of one of the great and very public Ghanaian love stories.  The Union of Mrs. Theresa Kufuor and former President John Agyekum Kufuor lasted a very long 61 years.

She endured the ups and downs of political life in Africa with her politician and lawyer husband.  Through election victories and defeats, military coup and detention, she came out standing tall.

She kept up family relationships and was the reliable “mother” to many.  Known in many homes including ones in Elmina and Sunyani (where her parents were from).

She didn’t waver from the Catholic faith which she served faithfully with music ministry as a chorister.  And the Church recognized her loyalty.

Like many spouses of political leaders in high office, she endured indignities unearned.  But she stood firm, unruffled, with quiet dignity.

May She Rest In Peace
