One dead in Akufo-Addo convoy accident at Bunso

A vehicle from the convoy of President Nana Addo Dankwa  Akufo-Addo has been involved in an accident.

The accident is said to have occurred at Bunso Junction in the Eastern Region.

Reports said the vehicle was crossed by a KIA Rhino truck, resulting in the crash.

The driver of the Toyota Land Cruiser, whose name was given as Kwesi Arthur  died on the spot while three other occupants of the vehicle sustained varying degrees of injury.

“Additionally, several close protection and police officers from the President’s security detail sustained varying degrees of injuries and received initial treatment at the Suhum Government Hospital. The injured persons are currently being evacuated to the University of Ghana Medical Centre for further treatment and observation,” the said.

Earlier, Jubilee House  in a statement commiserated with the family of the driver who lost his life. 

President Akufo-Addo who attended the funeral of former Deputy Finance Minister, John Kumah, in Kumasi over the weekend was not in the convoy during the accident.

Videos on social media showed  the badly mangled Toyota on the side of the road, with some security personnel also spotted around.
