Mahama nominates Defence Minister

President John Dramani Mahama has reassigned Kenneth Gilbert Adjei from the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources to the Ministry of Defence.

 This comes a year after the death of Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah in the military helicopter crash.

In accordance with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution, President Mahama has submitted the nominations to Parliament through the Speaker for prior approval.

Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, who has served as Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, will assume leadership of the Defence Ministry, replacing Dr Edward Omane Boamah, who died in the military helicopter crash in the Adansi area of the Ashanti Region on August 6, 2025.

Meanwhile, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has been reassigned to head the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, subject to parliamentary approval.

 Member of Parliament for the Korle Klottey Constituency, Dr. Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings, has also been reassigned to the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology, with Ahmed Ibrahim headed for the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.

The nominees are expected to appear before Parliament’s Appointments Committee for vetting before the House considers their approval.
