Liberia recognises SIB Bank

The Mayor of Greenville, Sinoe County, Hon. Harrison O. Kai, has applauded the efforts of SIB Bank (Sapelle International Bank Liberia) in providing financial services to Greenville and the surrounding towns and villages.

Currently, SIB is the only bank operating in the county, providing much-needed financial services to businesses and institutions operating in Greenville

Mayor Kai recently paid a courtesy visit to SIB’s Greenville branch to share a few words of encouragement with the team, reiterating the importance of their presence in Greenville.  Outside of SIB being in Greenville, the closest banks are hours away, sometimes more than a day’s drive, to Maryland or Grand Bassa County.

Currently, SIB provides deposit and withdrawal services, and also crucial remittance services within Liberia and outside of Liberia. Many Liberian businesses use SIB Greenville branch to make payments for goods not only within Liberia, but to Ghana Nigeria, & China.

Businesses rely on safe movement of funds between Greenville and Monrovia, as deposits at SIB Greenville can be withdrawn at SIB Monrovia, without worrying about the risk of traveling between counties with physical cash. With the pending rainy season, many businesses depend on SIB services when the roads get challenging,  as it removes the need to come to Buchanan or Monrovia just to transact.

Local transfers via MoneyGram are also available, customers don’t have to be a SIB account holder to transact.

Branch Manager, Joseph Twoe thanked Mayor Kai for the encouragement on behalf of the institution and ensured him on behalf of Managing Director Joseph Anim, that SIB is committed to serving Liberia’s underserved population and helping Liberian businesses grow.

Sapelle International Bank (Liberia) Limited, formerly GN Bank has been operating in Liberia since 2016 and employs over 125 Liberians. For their part, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, through the Deputy Minister for Urban Affairs, Hon. Ellen Pratt, encouraged both the Mayor and SIB to continue to find ways to support economic growth in Greenville.

She expressed hope that other banks would follow the example of SIB in being committed to expanding in other underserved Southeastern cities in the country.

In support of the national development agenda, the Ministry of Internal  Affairs is supporting cities, such as Greenville, to strengthen  financial service delivery. SIB’s presence supports the  government development agenda and is providing a sustainable example of how financial services should be decentralized.
