Let your nationwide demo be  peaceful – IDEG to NDC

Story: News Desk

The Civic Forum Initiative (CFI), which includes prominent Civil Society Organisations such as the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG), has urged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the police to ensure that the party’s demonstration against the Electoral Commission (EC) is conducted peacefully and lawfully.

In a statement issued on Monday, the CFI emphasised the importance of maintaining order during the protest, which is intended to pressure the EC into auditing the voter register.

They stressed that a peaceful demonstration would serve the best interests of both the NDC and the broader public.

The CSOs expressed concern that any disruption could undermine the effectiveness of the protest and potentially lead to legal and security issues.

They called on the NDC to collaborate with the police to manage the event in a manner that upholds democratic values and public safety.

“We appeal to the NDC and all protest organizers to ensure that these demonstrations remain peaceful and lawful. The safety of all Ghanaians must be the top priority, and any actions that could incite violence or unrest must be avoided at all costs.”

“We also call on the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies, operating under the direction of the Police Command, to work closely with the protest organisers to ensure that the demonstrations are peacefully managed. It is essential that the right to protest is protected while safeguarding public order,” it stated.
