The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Dr Eric Nyamekye, has urged judges to uphold integrity, conscience and strong moral values in the administration of justice.

He said judges, whose decisions often determine the fate of individuals and institutions, must allow truth, ethical principles and a clear conscience to guide their work.

Apostle Nyamekye made the call during a thanksgiving service in Accra to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Ghana’s Supreme Court on the theme: “Honouring the Past, Celebrating the Present and Defining the Future,” on Friday, July 31

He stressed that the integrity of judges must remain beyond question, as they carry the responsibility of interpreting the law and delivering justice.

“As judges adjudicating on behalf of God, in passing judgments and determining people’s fate, determining the truth in every matter, your integrity should not be in question at all.” 

“You should be people supremely concerned about conscience, holding time-tested values and subjecting them in all decisions,”he said.

Apostle Nyamekye said the future of Ghana’s justice system would depend largely on the character and quality of judges produced, urging them to conduct themselves in ways that would leave a lasting positive legacy.

He explained that conscience and values played a critical role in decision-making, particularly in challenging situations where individuals were faced with difficult choices.

According to him, values serve as a guide that helps people distinguish between right and wrong, strengthens their resolve, and enables them to live by their convictions.

“Values do more than just help us to decide on what is wrong or right. When we live by conscience tied with principles and values, they help us do three things,” he said.

The Church of Pentecost Chairman urged judges, Christians and public officials to remain committed to their convictions and avoid allowing personal interests, ambitions or circumstances to override their principles.

He warned that compromising one’s conscience could gradually weaken moral discipline and make individuals insensitive to wrongdoing.

“If you violate your conscience, soon it will be mortified, and your conscience will be subjected to great indiscipline, and you will lose all sensitivity and give yourself to all vices,” he cautioned.
