The Minister for the Interior, Henry Quartey, has signed an Executive Instrument to prolong the curfew hours in the Alavanyo and Nkonya Townships and their surrounding areas within the Oti Region.
The curfew now runs from 6:00pm to 6:00am, effective Sunday, May 19, 2024.
The decision to extend the curfew was made based on advice from the Oti Regional Coordinating Council, as stated in a press release from the Ministry.
It said this measure aims to enhance security and maintain peace in the affected communities. The government commended the cooperation of the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth, and residents for their compliance with the curfew regulations. According to the statement, their collaboration contributes significantly to ensuring public safety and tranquility in the region.
“The Minister for the Interior has by Executive Instrument renewed the Curfew hours imposed on Alavanyo and Nkonya Townships and their environs in the Oti Region from 6:00pm to 6:00am effective Sunday, May 19, 2024”
“Government continues to express its appreciation to the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth and people of the area for their efforts in ensuring peace in the area and urges them to use the established mechanisms for the resolution of all their conflicts and disputes”, the statement said.
