Five suspected armed robbers have been gunned down by some residents of Denkyira-Akwaboso, in the Central Region.

According to the police report, the group of armed robbers had attempted to steal from some residents.

However, during a shootout between the group and the residents, five of the alleged robbers were gunned down leading to their death.

“Police [Diaso District Police Command] proceeded to the scene and found five young men lying on the ground, dead.

The bodies together with the scene were photographed and inspected. Various degrees of gunshots wounds were found on all the bodies,” parts of the report read.

Meanwhile, two of the suspected robbers – a male and female escaped after the confrontations, they added.

The police stated that two locally manufactured guns and fourteen empty cartridges were found at the scene.

They added that the residents identified one of the men as Attah, a hardened armed robber within the community and on the wanted list of the Diaso police.

“Bodies conveyed to Sefwi-Bibiani Government Hospital mortuary for preservation, identification and autopsy,” the police stated.
The Diaso District Police Command added that they were currently investigating the incident.
