Engr. Dr. Dr. Ebenezer Ankomah Gyamera has called on government to use land expert in fighting illegal mining in the country.

Speaking on the Hard Truth show on Ocean 1TV and Ahomka FM, the land surveyor and geological engineer at the University Of Cape Coast indicated that it is high time government engages all stake holders, especially land experts in the fight against illegal mining since initial approaches employed by successive governments have failed.

Engr. Dr. Dr. Ankomah further elaborated that as a country, we have underutilized the numerous intellectual resources, agencies and other key stakeholders in protecting our natural resources and ensuring sustainability of these natural resources for future generations. He lauded the efforts of the land and natural resources ministry for their efforts to engage closely, traditional authorities to help curb the illegal mining menace in the country and charged government to deal publicly with political actors who engage in the illegal mining behind the scenes.

For his part, a communications member of the National Democratic Congress in the Central Region, Mr. Richard Sarpong has lambasted the government for its failure to persecute government officials sighted in illegal mining activities. According to him, such act exhibits the ineptitude of government in dealing with the nuisance. Mr. Sarpong who is popularly known in the political space as Father Casford blamed the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his quiescent attitude in protecting the natural resources of our dear country.
