The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) says the poor performance of the economy, under the leadership of HE Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, is a cause for worry.

Commenting on the 2023 Mid-Year Budget Review  in a statement  issued to the media, the National Secretary of the party ,  Remy Edmundson Paa Kow said, “we want the government to tell Ghanaians who is paying for all the losses and shortfalls in the economic indicators provided in the mid-year budget.

For example: high inflation rate, high exchange rate, high interest rate, reduced economic growth, high debt to GDP ratio due to excessive borrowing, huge Government expenditure due to a bloated size of Government, as well as corruption”.

The statement added: “We want to point out that, these poor economic results have had a serious impact on the well-being of the people.  The state cannot continue to squeeze the citizenry to pay the price while they receive nothing in return”.

To this end, the PPP  in the statement  demanded  urgent reforms in government expenditure targeting a reduction in the size of government; a review of government’s non-performing policies that are draining the national coffers; a commitment to fight against corruption; as well as effective and efficient ways of revenue mobilization to improve the financial position of the state.

“Ghanaians deserve a government that cares about the people and only the wellbeing of the people is what matters”, the statement said.
