Blacko first won the award in 2023 at the 24th edition of TGMAs
The Konongo-born sensation, known for his raw storytelling and genre-bending sound, beat out a formidable lineup of heavyweights including Medikal, Stonebwoy, Wendy Shay, Sarkodie and Diana Hamilton to take home the night’s ultimate prize.
Aside the overall prize, Black Sherif’s dominance across multiple categories in the night on Saturday, May 9, 2026, proved insurmountable, as he walked away with a staggering four other trophies, including , Album/EP of the Year (Iron Boy), Songwriter of the Year (Sacrifice), Best Hiphop Song (Where Dem Boys) and Best Afropop Song (Sacrifice)
The win solidifies his transition from a breakout viral star to the definitive face of modern African music.
The Grand Arena erupted as Sherif’s name was announced. Dressed in his signature avant-garde style, the artist took to the stage to thank his “villagers” and the fans who have followed his meteoric rise from First Sermon to global charts.
“This isn’t just for me; it’s for every kid in Konongo dreaming of a global stage. We worked for this, we stayed hungry, and we’re just getting started,” Sherif told the roaring crowd.
Black Sherif’s victory was bolstered by a prolific year, characterized by multiple singles surpassing 50 million streams, a successful world tour that put Ghanaian drill and highlife on the map and high praise for his lyrical depth and vocal versatility.
While the night belonged to Blacko, other notable winners were; Medikal (Best Hiplife Song), Kofi Kinata (Best Highlife Artiste), Diana Hmilton (Best Gospel Artiste) and Wendy Shey (Best Afrobeats/Afropop) .

Congratulations to Black Sherif — this win feels written in the stars! 🌟
What’s fascinating is that Black Sherif was born on January 9, 2002 — making his Destiny Number a 5, the number of the Adventurer and freedom-seeker. People with this Life Path are known for breaking boundaries, blending worlds, and rising through raw authenticity — which is exactly what Blacko has done, from Konongo to global stages.
Five is also the number of major transformations, and winning Artiste of the Year TWICE? That’s a 5 doing exactly what 5s do best — reinventing, expanding, and refusing to be boxed in.

Blacko said it himself — “We’re just getting started.” The numbers agree. 🔥
