A reporter at an Accra-based television station, Amansan Television (ATV), Miss Vida Wiafe has been assaulted while covering the parliamentary rerun of Ablekuma North polls in the Greater Accra region, the station can confirm.
In a statement issued to the media on July 11, 2025 and signed by the Station’s Operations Manager who also doubles as the Head of News, Atta Kwaku Boadi, said, “We have learned with deep concern that during the course of her assignment, Vida was physically assaulted with pepper spray by security personnel, leading to her collapse at the scene”.
According to the statement, she was immediately attended to by medics and has since been stabilized after receiving the necessary medical attention.
ATV therefore in the statement strongly condemned this act of violence against a member of the media who was lawfully performing her duties in the public interest.
The statement further called on the Ghana Police Service to take full responsibility for the actions of its officers and ensure that Vida received appropriate compensation and support for the trauma suffered.
“We urge all stakeholders, particularly the security agencies, to respect and protect journalists as they carry out their constitutional mandate to inform the public”, it said.
“We wish Vida a speedy recovery and assure the public that ATV will continue to stand by our staff and defend the rights of all journalists to work without fear of harassment or assault”, the statement added.
