Apaak supports dialysis centre in Upper East Regional  Hospital

Story: Kwabena Akyeana

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Builsa South constituency, Dr Clement  Abas Apaak has supported the establishment of dialysis unit  at the Upper East Regional Hospital with  Five Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHS 5,000 ).

Speaking to Today in an interview after the donation, the Builsa South MP said, he used the  opportunity to interact with the initiator of the project and the administrative team of the hospital to find out  the possible causes of the increasing numbers of kidney illnesses, the importance of having a functioning dialysis unit in the hospital, and the benefits of the unit to the people of the Upper East Region.

He was happy that, the team, through donations, had  already procured three dialysis machines, obtained and renovated a section of the former male ward, and had also fitted a water purification system.

“If all goes well, the unit should be up and running in the next few weeks. This will save those in need of dialysis from having to travel all the way to Tamale, Kumasi, or Accra”, he said.

However, Dr Apaak  noted that,  the unit would  need more machines given the increasing number of cases according to the team.

“It will also need regular supplies of consumables for dialysis to keep the cost down”, he added.

He applauded the  team for doing so much in such a short time, saying  with additional support, they will do more.

He promised to make additional donations in future  to support the unit.

To this end, he appealed to individuals and organization to support this worthy initiative.

“If you can help, please let me know so that I can put you in contact with the team in charge”, he said.
