As part of its preparations to contest the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections, the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has inaugurated its Upper West Regional office in Wa .
The event took place on Friday, December 15, 2023.
Addressing party faithful(s) at the event, the party’s National Secretary, Remy Paa Kow Edmundson traced the proud history of the PPP since its formation in 2012
He noted how the party has been consistent in presenting alternative policies to governance in Ghana, particularly in the areas of economic development, good governance, the fight against corruption.
He also decried the winner takes all politics in Ghana whereby only members of the ruling political party get the opportunity to serve in government .
This, the PPP’s chief scribe said, undermined participation and inclusivity.
He indicated that, a future PPP government would include all Ghanaians both in the country and the diaspora, who are capable, to serve the country.
Mr Edmundson also touched on some key constitutional reforms the PPP would tackle when elected into power in 2024.
These, he said , include:
• Making Asset Declaration of Public officials public knowledge and a requirement before being sworn into office and after serving their term
• Making the Attorney General’s independent of the President and separate it from the Minister of Justice
• Preventing MPs from becoming Ministers of State so that they can focus on their primary duty checking the Executive
• Giving power to the people to elect their District Assembly Members and District/Municipal/Metropolitan Chief Executives to ensure local accountability and rapid development.
“Go and tell your fellow Ghanaians that there is hope and that the PPP is the alternative party that seeks to bring systematic change that will bring about development and progress for us all”, he charged the party members.
He also encouraged the progressive faithful, to register more members through the Eva Registration Platform via WhatsApp on 0503517348 and the Short code *931#.
Mr. Edmundson also used the occasion to announce that from Monday, December 18, 2023 to January 31, 2024, the party will open nominations for its Parliamentary primaries
Present at the occasion were the National Secretary, Remy Paa Kow Edmundson, National Youth Coordinator, Faisal Abu Sadat, Regional Chairman, Matthew Dumah and other regional and constituency executives of the party .
