The 2024 flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has assured party members that every ballot will be counted in the December 7 polls.

He said, the party would ensure that all ballots are counted by the Electoral Commission(EC).To this end,  Mr Mahama urged the  supporters of the party  to commit to protecting the ballot boxes on Election Day.

The former Ghanaian leader said this at the NDC’s campaign launch in Tamale on Saturday, July 27, 2024.

He underscored  the importance of monitoring every aspect of the electoral process to prevent any potential rigging in favour of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The former president assured Ghanaians, urging them to vote massively for him and trust the party to secure their votes.

He indicated  that the NDC had  implemented sufficient measures to ensure the will of the Ghanaian people was  not subverted.

Mr Mahama also encouraged the NDC faithful to safeguard every vote to ensure a fair election actively.

“Everybody needs to prepare, we’re not going to sleep for 48 hours until all the ballots have been counted. None of us is going to sleep for 48 hours until all the ballots have been counted.”

“And I wish to assure all Ghanaians who intend to vote for the NDC, I can promise you that we will protect every single vote”.

“We have had our issue with the Electoral Commission, but we’re prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt,” he noted.

The NDC’s standard bearer also took a swipe at   Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia  saying the youth cannot afford to waste another four years trying out Dr. Bawumia’s unproven leadership.

He emphasised that the country’s young people needed  experienced and effective leadership to create opportunities and drive development.

Mr Mahama slammed Dr. Bawumia for his role in the current government, which he pointed out had mismanaged the economy.

He attributed  the economic challenges faced by Ghanaians under the current administration to poor leadership and decision-making.

According to him, “Dr. Bawumia does not deserve the opportunity to lead the country, given his performance so far”.

He therefore  urged the electorate to consider the track records of the candidates and make an informed decision that will benefit the nation.

According to him, the youth were  clamouring for an experienced hand to create real opportunities for them, implying that his own leadership would better serve the country’s future.

“On December 7, Ghana must change course, we cannot solve the crisis in which we are with the same people who caused the problem. Several years ago, somebody [President Akufo-Addo] came and said try me, the result is what we’re seeing today. Today, another person [Dr Bawumia] has come and he’s also saying try me.

“And he’s saying the same things the one who has put us in this ditch said eight years ago. And what they are saying is that if they don’t deliver after four years, change me.

“The youth of this country don’t have four years to waste. The youth of this country are in a hurry to create the opportunities that will make them live a dignified life. They are not going to try somebody and four years take him off. The youth want an experienced hand,” he jabbed.
