The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has dragged the Electoral Commission (EC), to court over their disqualification in the 2024 Presidential election .
The EC on Friday, September 20, 2024 cleared 13 Presidential aspirants, disqualifying 11 candidates including the PPP’s presidential aspirant, Kofi Asamoah-Siaw .
According to the EC , the 11 candidates were disqualified due to failure in correcting the errors on their nomination forms.
Mr Asamoah-Siaw is therefore praying the court for an order to quash a letter dated September 20, 2024, under the authorship of the EC Chairperson, preventing him from contesting the presidential election.
He noted that not a single error was identified or pinpointed by the EC to adequately inform him and the party of the nature of the error to enable them to effect the possible and necessary corrections.
“That it is inconceivable that the same respondent who earlier identified specific errors in applicant’s nomination forms and enabled the applicant to correct same this time round could not pinpoint which further errors there were, so the applicant could be given opportunity to effect necessary amendment or alteration in accordance with the law,” a part of the motion on notice further stated.
Some Ghanaians and Political Parties have questioned the credibility of the EC and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) led a demonstration to the EC calling for a forensic audit of the voter’s register.
