The Electoral Commission (EC) will today, Monday, December 2, 2024 conduct Special Voting as part of 2024 General Elections .
The exercise, according to the EC will take place in 328 special voting centres across the 276 constituencies.
A total of 131, 478 are expected to cast their ballots in today’s exercise
Addressing the media last week, the Deputy Commissioner in charge of Corporate Services, Dr Bossman Aasare said no constituency would have more than 750 people.
He said, centres with more than that figure had been divided.
“Special voting will take place on December 2 at 328 centres,” he stressed.
Dr Bossman further urged people who would be partaking in the special voting to endeavour to do so on the designated date because their names will not be on the voter register during the main elections on December 7.
“If you are a special voter, go and vote on December 2, if you don’t vote on that day, your name will not be on the register on December 7,” he said.
The special voting arrangement is intended to accommodate voters who will be performing election-related duties on the main polling day.
It includes personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces, National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), National Security, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana National Fire Service, and Information Services Department.
Additionally, it includes members of the National Ambulance Service, Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Prisons Service, Ghana Journalists Association, Ghana Police Service, and the National Media Commission.
This early voting ensures that these individuals can exercise their right to vote without conflicting with their professional responsibilities during the elections.
However, the results of the special voting will not be declared until after the general elections.
The special voting is a facility provided by law to allow registered voters who will not be able to present themselves at their polling stations on Election Day to vote earlier.
