Ghanaians in Chicago celebrate Ghana’s 67th Independence Anniversary

The Ghana National Council of Metropolitan Chicago on Saturday 9th March, 2024 organized an event to commemorate and celebrate Ghana’s 67th Independence Anniversary. 

 It was organized with the theme, “Progress in Our Diversity.”  The President of the Council Mr. Kasim Abubakari and the Vice President Dr. Eunice Cromwell presided over the event along with other executive members of the Council.  

The Council is made up of Ghanaian ethnic associations and their affiliates.  It is the Council that organizes the famous and internationally known Ghanafest on the last Saturday of July every year in Chicago.  The Council operates a Community Health Clinic the second Saturday of every month to provide essential health services to the Ghanaian community.

Rev. Dr. Kofi Noonoo, President of the Ghanaian Council of Churches and Mallam Hafiz Tahiru of the Haske Community offered prayers for the event.

 Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, Chairman of GN Bank in Chicago, Mr. Paa Kwasi Sam, immediate past President of the Council, Mr. Reuben Hadidze were among the many Ghanaians who participated in the dinner dance. 

The Council gave the “Pioneer of Excellence Award” to Mrs. Patience Adigbli; “Community Support of Excellence Award” to Iman Baba Cisse; “Excellence in Humanity Award” to Dr. Hajia Habiba Fuseini; and the “Community Development of Excellence Award” to Nana Kwame Frimpong.

In his address, the President of the Council noted “…the strength in our unity despite our unique background and diverse associations and affiliations”.  He urged the Ghanaian Community to remain active, attend social gatherings and “…be our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers.”
