The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced plans to meet all political parties contesting the upcoming Akwatia By-Election on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, to assess their preparedness and update them on the modalities for the polls.

The by-election, scheduled for September 2, follows the passing of the constituency’s Member of Parliament, Ernest Kumi, after a short illness.

Speaking to journalists in Akwatia on Monday, August 25, 2025, the EC’s Eastern Regional Director, Joe Appiah Baffoe, assured stakeholders that the election would be conducted transparently and credibly.

“Our common interest is to ensure a peaceful, free, and fair election. We entreat all political parties to conform to the rules so that, in the end, we can all achieve the peaceful election we are seeking,” he said.

Mr. Baffoe added that Wednesday’s meeting would provide a platform for the Commission to engage directly with parties and their candidates on key operational details.
