EC sets Nov.11 for  nationwide by-elections for vacant local seats

The Electoral Commission of Ghana has announced that it will conduct by-elections across various Electoral Areas and Unit Committees nationwide on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.

This follows vacancies created by the resignation or death of Assembly Members and Unit Committee Members, in line with the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), as amended by Act 940.

In a press release signed by the Chairperson, Mrs. Jean Mensa, the Commission disclosed that the nomination process commenced on Monday, October 6 and end on Thursday, October 16, 2025.

Nomination forms are available free of charge at all District Offices of the Electoral Commission or can be downloaded from the Commission’s website ([www.ec.gov.gh/forms](http://www.ec.gov.gh/forms)).

Key Nomination Guidelines:

* Submission Period: Monday, October 13 to Thursday, October 16
* Submission Times: 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm daily
* Requirements: Candidates must submit completed nomination forms in quadruplicate, accompanied by two recent passport-sized photographs with a red background.
* For Electoral Area elections, forms must be endorsed by a Proposer, Seconder, and 18 registered voters who are residents in the area.
* For Unit Committee elections, the forms must be supported by a Proposer, Seconder, and 8 other registered voters from the same area.

All submissions are to be made personally by the candidate or through their Proposer or Seconder to the Returning Officer in the relevant Electoral Area.

Regions and Districts Involved

The by-elections will cover over 1,500 polling stations across multiple regions, including Greater Accra, Ashanti, Volta, Central, Eastern, Bono, Ahafo, Western, Western North, and others.

Some of the notable districts and communities where elections will take place include:

* Greater Accra: Ablekuma Central, Weija-Gbawe, La-Nkwantanang, and Adenta
* Central Region: Cape Coast, Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem, and Mfantseman
* Western Region: Jomoro, Ellembelle, Nzema East, and Sekondi-Takoradi
* Eastern Region: Asuogyaman, Yilo Krobo, Suhum, and New Juaben
* Ashanti Region: Adansi South, Obuasi Municipal, Bosomtwe, and Offinso North
* Volta Region: Keta, Ketu South, Ho, and Afadjato South

The list of all vacant Electoral Areas and Units with the corresponding number of polling stations has been provided by the Commission and is available at district offices and online.

The Commission encourages all eligible citizens to actively participate in the by-elections and assures the public of its commitment to transparency, fairness, and integrity throughout the process.
