Jubilation erupted across the capital as the Black Stars officially sealed their spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, following a decisive victory over Comoros in their final qualifying match at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
The win against their Group I rivals ensured Ghana will make its fifth appearance at the global football showpiece, a remarkable achievement for the West African nation.
Coming into the final matchday, the Black Stars were perched atop the group table and needed just a single point to guarantee their qualification.
Head Coach Otto Addo’s men delivered a comprehensive performance to secure all three points, banishing any lingering doubts and bringing an end to what has been an impressive qualifying campaign.
The triumph means the Black Stars have successfully navigated the expanded African qualifiers, claiming one of the continent’s nine automatic qualification slots for the tournament to be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
This qualification cements Ghana’s place among Africa’s football elite, adding the 2026 tournament to their previous appearances in 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022.
The victory against Comoros was a sweet moment of redemption for the Black Stars, who had suffered a defeat to the same opponent in the reverse fixture earlier in the campaign.
The entire nation is now looking forward to supporting the Black Stars on the world stage once again.
