The unsanitary condition of the forecourt of the Elmina Magistrate Court has sparked growing concern among stakeholders, raising serious questions about the health and safety of legal practitioners, court officials, and the general public who access the facility.
During a recent visit to the court’s forecourt, it was observed that a significant accumulation of refuse, with schoolchildren and residents contributing to the already dire situation by adding more waste to the site.
Addressing the issue, the Municipal Chief Executive for the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipality, Hon. Ismail Saeed Zagoon, acknowledged the challenges and assured that efforts are underway to improve waste management across the area. He noted that while the municipality is constrained by a limited number of waste transport vehicles, steps are being taken to engage with relevant agencies and organizations to explore sustainable waste disposal solutions.
In the meantime, several stakeholders have called for the immediate relocation of the refuse collection point from the court premises to a more suitable location, in order to restore environmental hygiene and preserve the dignity of the judicial facility.
