Carlos Queiroz is set to remain as head coach of Ghana’s Black Stars, with negotiations over a new contract with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) reportedly at an advanced stage.
According to multiple media reports , the 73-year-old Portuguese coach is close to agreeing a new deal after outstanding payments owed to him and members of his backroom staff were settled.
The payments, which related to their contracts for Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, were reportedly cleared by the GFA with support from the Ministry of Sports.
The settlement is said to have removed a major hurdle in negotiations and paved the way for Queiroz to continue in the role.
Queiroz took charge of the Black Stars in April after Otto Addo was dismissed in March. He was initially appointed on a four-month contract and guided Ghana to the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
His continued stay would see him lead Ghana into the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
The Black Stars are scheduled to begin their qualifying campaign away against Côte d’Ivoire on September 24, 2026, at the Stade de la Paix in Bouaké, before hosting The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium three days later.
