Zidane extends contract with Real Madrid

Zinedine Zidane has signed a new three-year contract with Real Madrid.

Last season Zidane led Madrid to the Spanish league title while they also successfully defended the Champions League.

The new deal will keep the Frenchman at the Santiago Bernabeu until 2020.

Speaking ahead of the club’s Spanish Super Cup first leg at Barcelona, Zidane said: “My story with Real Madrid is deeper than contracts and signatures.

“I’m happy to be linked with the club. But the contract doesn’t mean anything.

“You can sign for 10, 20 years. I know where I am and what to do,” said Zidane, who was in charge of Real’s B team before replacing Rafael Benitez in January 2016.

“In one year, maybe I won’t be here. Real Madrid and I are not going to argue, never.”

Zidane has also guided Real to a Club World Cup title and two UEFA Super Cup successes during his tenure.

Real Madrid visited Barca yesterday with the second leg salted at the Bernabeu on Wednesday.
