The Executive Director of Women in Sports Association of Ghana (WISA), a non-governmental organisation (NGO), Madam Gloria Commodore, has made a passionate appeal to corporate Ghana to support the second edition of Women in Sports Association (WISA) Achievers Awards.
This year’s achievers awards, which is slated for 29th September, 2018 will see 26 women receive awards for recognition and honours from disciplines within the sports fraternity.
Madam Commodore said Women in Sports Association was launched four years ago with the aim of addressing issues relating to women in sports and to encourage more participation of women in the field.
Madam Commodore extolled Ghandour Cosmetics Limited for taking up the responsibility as the major sponsor for this year and appealed for more sponsors from corporate Ghana to help support and promote their activities.
“We want to show everyone that WISA needs help to grow but, they can only develop when more people and organisations come on board to support,” she stressed.
She said women who decide to go into sporting activities must be encouraged as they were many opportunities in sports, such as scholarships to further education.
She hinted that there would be a health and fitness walk through the principal streets of Accra on 29th September before a media launch on August 29th.
According to Madam Commodore, there were plans to groom more women in sports to climb higher on the international sports ladder in sports administration, management and coaching.
