The Minority Leader of Parliament, Mr. Haruna Iddrisu has called on the Finance Minister to release funds meant for the running of the House on time.
According to the Minority Leader who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale South Constituency in the Northern Region maintained that the delay in releasing funds for the programs and activities of the House was having adverse effect on its output, especially the work of the various committees.
The Tamale South lawmaker made the call on the floor of Parliament when commenting on the business statement for the second week ending Friday, 29th May 2020.
According to him members of the various committees were not able to carry out their workloads outside Parliament due to lack of funds thus affecting timely delivery of reports.
“Mr. Speaker, most committees are not able to follow up on issues and directives your good self refer to them and report back to the house because there is lack of funding to undertake such activities” he noted.
Mr. Speaker, the Deputy Finance Minister is here, go and tell your sector minister that he should release funds timeously. “Parliament needs funds on time to work effectively” he added.
The Minority Leader also appealed to the Speaker to help Parliament to come up directive that will bond the current minister of finance and future finance ministers to release funds to the August House on time.
Meanwhile the Majority Leader and leader of government business in his contribution admitted to the fact that delays in releasing funds was hampering smooth running of the House.
He backs the Minority Leader’s call for the finance minister to ensure timely release of funds.
