“I took driver’s gun for operation at Ayawaso West Wuogon” -Nat’l Security Operative ‘Double’

A national security operative Bright Akomea also known as ‘Double’ has told the Emile Short Commission although he was not assigned with a gun for the said operation at Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election, he took that of the driver when they arrived at the scene, but never pulled a trigger contrary to what the MP told the commission.

He has aslo denied been part of dreadful New Patriotic Party (NPP) militia group – Invincible Forces.

According to him, he was dealing in mobile phones at Circle before joining the National Security two years ago.

MP for Ningo Prampram Sam George in his February 25 testimony before the Commission investigating the cause of violence during a by-election at Ayawaso said ‘Double’ had always been a member of the vigilante group before being drafted into national security.

“Shots were immediately fired into the air. I immediately took cover against a wall and stood against it. Because, the next 60 seconds appeared to be stuff from an action movie. I saw a number of the armed men pull out their side weapons and fire into the direction of the crowd. I saw Double [a National Security operative] pull out his AK 47 and fire. The gun jammed; I saw him clear his chamber, reload the gun and fired several rounds from his AK47,” George told the Commission.

However, ‘Double’ denied the claims.

He told the Commission he was legitimately enlisted into national security and had never been a militia.

“I saw an announcement that the National Security was recruiting and I applied. I met a panel and my finger print was taken. I was trained for three weeks in map reading, light weapon handling and crowd control,” ‘Double’ testified.

At least six people were shot during the violence with several others sustaining injuries. The Commission is to make recommendations to forestall future occurrence during a by-election.
