THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF THE LITTLE NONI FRUIT

Noni scientifically known as Morinda Citrifolia grows among the lava that flows in Asia, Australia and the Islands of Polynesia. It fruit is yellow- greenish- white color and large when ripped with pebbled surface.

Every part of the shrub from leaves to roots, for thousands of years, is used to treat variety of health problems such as diabetes, pains, burns, fever, cancer, arthritis, aches, weight gain, inflammation, tumors, parasitic and bacterial infections. Morinda is a source of antioxidants, vitamin c, and potassium. It has phytonutrients which has anti- inflammatory, anti-viral and anti- bacterial compounds, known to boost the immune system as well as repair cellular damages.

However, even though noni plant and its fruits have got a lot of health benefits without side effects, there are special precautions and warnings that one must look at. These precautions include; i. pregnant women are not to take in noni to avoid miscarriages, ii. People with high level of potassium in their bodies should not drink noni because it contains large amount of potassium, ii. Avoid using noni if you have liver disease and iv. Those taking blood – thinning medications or anti- water- retention pills are also advice not to take in noni.
