Some residents of Adenta in the Adentan Municipality in the Greater Accra region, this morning embarked on a demonstration as part of measures to put pressure on government to complete footbridges on the Adenta Madina highway.
Due to incidents which happened last Thursday, after a female student of the West Africa Senior High School (WASS) knocked and killed instantly a taxi cab, the Monday morning demonstration saw over 30 police officers walking with the ‘peaceful’ demonstrators.
The demonstration comes on the back of rising road crashes on the Adentan-Madina Highway sparking chaos and roadblocks by the residents. So far 24 people have been killed on the road with 164 others sustaining injuries.
The residents who were clouded in red/black attire converged at the main entrance of the WASS campus as planned for the walk.
“We were going ahead with the walk despite initial reports of a suspension of the walk, to keep the government on its toes” Selorm Branttie a resident of Madina and member of the organizers said.
