Reinstate EOCO boss —Prez orders

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has asked the Executive Director of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), ACP K.K. Amoah (Rtd), to immediately reinstate the suspended Eastern Regional Director of the organisation, Fred Dzeny.

Our checks at the Jubilee House-the seat of government- indicates that the President was not happy about the suspension of Mr Dzeny, hence his directive for the reinstatement.

Describing the move by ACP Amoah as ‘reckless,’ our sources at the seat of government said the President rather found his (ACP Amoah’s) behaviour as someone who wanted to paint his government black and not Mr Dzeny.

ACP Amoah suspended his eastern regional director for asking President Akufo-Addo to prosecute corrupt appointees in his government first, before dealing with other corrupt officials of the opposition political parties, notably the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In a statement issued by EOCO on Monday, November 5, 2018, and signed by ACP Amoah, the office said the comments made by Mr Dzeny through his personal utterances were unprofessional, hence his suspension.

Some Ghanaians who were not happy with the suspension criticised the EOCO boss, saying it was a dent on the image of a government that came into office with the promises to fight corruption head-on.

At a public forum on the theme: ‘Youth in the fight against corruption,” Mr Dzeny mentioned that government cannot win the fight against corruption if it doesn’t deal with persons within the government accused of corrupt practices.

“When you look at the corruption cases in Ghana, it is not just politicians who are corrupt, the public servants, civil servants they are all corrupt. When you look at it, it is the Chief Directors who prepare contract documents and other things so if we are blaming the Politicians, it is not right, it is the public servants generally.”

“Before we can fight corruption in Ghana, the ruling government should be ready first and foremost to prosecute their own…then they can also have the guts to prosecute their own”, he added.

Meanwhile, security analyst, Kwasi Aning, has praised President Akufo-Addo for ordering the reinstatement of the Mr Dzeny, saying the move will restore confidence in public officials to expose wrongdoing.

“I am so proud of my President and this decision by the President has serious implications for the manner in which people act in dismay in atrocious manner seeking favours. The President cracking the whip in this instance will send signals to his ministers and appointees.”

“What powers did the EOCO boss have to do what he did? The Eastern EOCO boss said nothing wrong. Amoah, desperate to protect his position double guessed and that was a terrible mistake”, Dr Anning, who is the Director, Faculty of Academic Affairs and Research, Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, made these observations yesterday on Starr FM in Accra.
