Hundreds of athletes drawn from the various second cycle institutions across the country will converge at the Cape Coast Stadium today to begin the much anticipated 30th edition of the National Regional Sports festival.
The nine-day sports festival, which is held biennially and organised by the Ghana Education Service (GES), is aimed at unearthing talents to augment the national teams at major events in various disciplines.
Just like the 29th edition which was hosted in the Wa Municipality last year, students with requisite potential in disciplines such as hockey, table-tennis, volleyball, handball and athletics would be developed to represent Ghana in future international tournaments.
Last year’s edition saw the Ashanti Region come first in the both boys and girls divisions followed by the Central Region while host region, Upper West placed 9th and 10th in the boys and girls division respectively.
The Inter-Regional Schools and Colleges Sports Festival since its inception in 1989 has become a very important and popular program on the educational calendar.
