Prez. Talon given 90 days ultimatum to resign

The Chairman for Alliance for Sustainable Democracy in Africa (ASDA) who also doubles as the leader of the biggest opposition party in Benin, Dr. Prosper Ladislas Agbesi has given the President of Banin, President Patrice Talon a 90 days ultimatum to resign or incur the wrath of Benninoise.

According to him Benin, under the rule of Prez. Talon has been transformed into what is effectively a one party state.

Addressing the media in Accra last Saturday, 15th June, 2019, the Chairman of ASDA explained that the over ten political parties in opposition which instructively have been reduced from about 200, by Prez. Talon’s legislative change in his country has no representation at all in Benin’s 83 member legislature.

He insisted that 27% of registered electorates who voted to elect the new legislature, which comprised entirely members of the president’s party and his close political allies constitute less than 10% of the country’s populace.

“Crucially those changes and the electoral results they have generated have been roundly rejected by the Beninoise people, who are now out on the streets in masse, demanding their reversal and are being met with violent responses by elements of the security forces, including the army units that Prez. Talon has deployed to ruthlessly crush the people and their collective will” Dr Agbesi claimed.

According to the Chairman of ASDA, history has shown time and again that the situation in Benin currently presents the likelihood of an impending blood bath.

“This is why we the leaders of opposition parties, who have come together to co-ordinate the effort to save our country, want to avert a physical showdown between unarmed civilians and armed agents of a repressive government led by a proven unethical leader” Dr Agbesi stated.

They are therefore calling on the United Nations, Africa Union, ECOWAS and the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to come to the aid of Benin to restore peace and security to the citizenry. Saying the current President of Benin, President Talon has failed to deliver on the mandate for which he was voted for.

Dr. Agbesi maintained that President Talon is ruling the country autocratically and infringing on the right of the citizens. “This is why we are calling on United Nations, ECOWAS and Africa Union to come and help restore the rule of law and Democracy in Benin, since the people of Benin want to live in a peaceful country but not a war thorn” he reiterated,

Dr. Agbesi said he believe that the security men who are killing Beninoise are not from Benin but rather, missionaries which the President has employed into their security.

He is therefore calling on the international communities to put economic sanctions on President Talon and his government.

According to him sanctions from the international communities have proven to be an effective way of persuading repressive regimes to conform to international acceptable standards of conduct.
