A Political Analyst, Mr. Jonathan Asante Otchere has hinted that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Communications Director, Mr. Yaw Buabeng Asamoah and his presidential candidate for the 2020 elections Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo will suffer huge electoral fortunes come December 7.
According to the Political Analyst, Mr. Yaw Buabeng Asamoah’s reckless statement made against the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Running Mate (RM), Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang few hours after she was officially named as the RM to the NDC’s Flagbearer, Mr. John Dramani Mahama.
The NPP Communications Director who is also the party’s 2020 Parliamentary Candidate (PC) for the Adentan Constituency in the Greater Accra Region in a hurriedly organised Presser held at the party’s Headquarters in Accra told the world that the NDC’s Flagbearer’s choice of a woman RM was a clear indication he (Mahama) does not take Ghanaian electorates serious.
The assertion by Mr. Buabeng Asamoah who is commonly called YB in the political arena have not gone down well with some women groups, gender feminists as well as political watchers.
YB addressing journalists at the press conference said “while congratulating Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang for her nomination, her performance while holding office is proof that she is not the best person for the job.
We can only conclude that the choice of Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman by Mr. John Dramani Mahama is a clear indication that he does not take the Ghanaian electorate seriously.”
“We wonder what the message is that John Dramani Mahama is sending Ghanaians by picking Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang a woman as his vice presidential candidate when her stewardship in the past brought such heartache to teachers and trauma to her colleague women.” The words of NPP Communications Director
But Mr. Asante Otchere in an interview maintained that the NPP Communications Director claimed that the NDC’s Flagbearer’s choice of a ‘Woman RM’ suggest that he (Mahama) does not take the Ghanaian electorate seriously is an affront to Ghanaian women.
According to him Prof. Opoku-Agyeman who was the University of Cape Coast’s first female Vice Chancellor is more than qualified to be a running mate.
“If not because of politics, how can anyone compare Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang to even the president? Per her achievements as educationist, academia, and administrator she stands taller than both President Nana Addo and Former President John Mahama” he stated.
Mr. Asante Otchere is therefore, calling on the NPP to as a matter of urgency change their strategy since they will find it very difficult to handle Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang in run-up to the December 2020 general polls.
