Police in the Ashanti Region have l arrested eight traders including two females who were involved in violent protest at the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) offices on Tuesday, February 6, 2018.
The eight were part of a large group of traders who were angry over the arrest of one of their colleagues by some members of the KMA task force on Monday.
Before going to the KMA office, they went to Kumasi Central Police station in an attempt to bail their colleague but unable to do that , making them vent their anger on KMA city guards.
Several calls on them to calm down fell on deaf years until a senior member from the assembly approached them and enquired of their grievance.
They were unhappy with the government’s inability to provide jobs as they promised during the campaign season.
“If you won’t give us work to do and we are trying something small on our own why do you send city guards with guns to arrest us”. they averred.
Meanwhile Public Relations Officer for the KMA Godwin Okuma Nyame has refuted the allegation that the city guards were in possession of guns when they went to effect the arrest.
