A plot by some self-seeking government appointees at the local level, individuals and organisations to wrongly attack the integrity and personalities of the Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof Frimpong Kwabena Boateng, and members of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), has completely backfired.
Information available to this paper absolutely exposes the recent false media reportages made by those self-seeking appointees, individuals and organisations against Prof Boateng, who doubles as the Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Committee and his team, thereby taking these critics to the highest cleaner.
The IMCIM was set up by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo through the Ministries of Lands and Natural Resources and Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation to collaborate effectively with the Operation Vanguard joint security task force with the object of flushing out Illegal mining activities across the country.
Since its inception, this paper has gathered that the IMCIM with its task force team have been able to effect arrests of foreign nationals and seized their heavy-duty mining equipment which they use to operate illegally.
Our investigations revealed that the mining equipment which were seized by the task force team of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal mining were normally sent to Accra through tracking.
Today found out that Prof Boateng, his Secretary, Mr Charles Onuawonto Bissue, together with the leader of the task force, Mr Ohene Agyekum, whose core mandate is to make sure Illegal mining activities in the country are flushed out have been highly commended by the public for effective delivery of service.
In recent times, some media houses have been reporting blindly and publishing false and nasty stories about the operational activities being carried out by the Inter-Ministerial Mining Committee just to tarnish and defame the Chairman, Prof Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, and his Secretary, Mr Charles Onuawonto Bissue, for no reason.
This paper upon its findings can confirm that those media houses who are denting the image of the IMCIM have been paid with huge sums of monies by some group of people with the intention to discrediting the good work of Prof Kwabena Frimpong Boateng and his team.
Investigations conducted by this paper about the recent raids carried by the task force of the IMCIM in the Apraprama Forest Reserve at Kobro in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region where a mining firm called Heritage Imperial Mining Company who claimed they have acquired the requisite documentation from the Minerals Commission of Ghana, the Forestry Commission and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) were later seen to be operating illegally and were not permitted by law to undertake mining activities in the forest.
This development, this paper gathered, accounted for the seizure of the mining equipment of the company which were tracked to Accra and not sold by the IMCIM as was published by some media houses.
