Former Black Stars forward, Augustine Arhinful, has described as unfortunate the decision to ban Kwesi Nyantakyi for life from all football activities.
A statement on FiIFA’s website announcing the ban said: “the Adjudicatory Chamber of the Independent Ethics Committee has banned Mr Kwesi Nyantakyi, former President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), for life from all football-related activities (administrative, sports or any other) at both national and international level.”
“The adjudicatory chamber found Mr Nyantakyi guilty of having violated article 19 (Conflicts of interest), article 21 (Bribery and corruption) and article 22 (Commission) of the FIFA Code of Ethics, 2012 edition. As a consequence, Mr Nyantakyi is banned for life from all football-related activities (administrative, sports or any other) at both national and international level,” the statement said.
Additionally, a fine in the amount of CHF 500,000 has been imposed on Mr Nyantakyi.”
Reacting to the news, Augustine Arhinful said even though he knew there would be some form of punishment; he didn’t think it would be this ‘harsh’.
He also described the fine of CHF500,000 as a ‘bit severe’ and requested all to learn a lesson from it; adding “it is sad but we have to move on.”
