NDC Can’t Stop Us…Compilation Of New Voters Register Was A Campaign Promise – NPP Middle East Chairman

The Middle East branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Isaac Osae has revealed that his party will do everything within its power to ensure that the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana compile a fresh voters register to conduct the election 2020.

According to him the compilation of the new voters register was a campaign promise which his party (NPP) must fulfill without fail.

Chairman Osae made this revelation in an exclusive interview with, Franklin Asare-Donkoh via phone.

The Middle East Branch Chairman of NPP further explained that their constant call for a fresh voters register began way back in 2012.

“We advocated for a new voters register when the party was in opposition, we staged a couple of demonstrations to drum home our demand but the powers that be at the time did not listened to us.

Today we are in government, we have the golden opportunity to make all the needed changes in our electoral system including compilation of a new voters register and we are not going to abandon this promise.” he reiterated.

Chairman Osae asked why the biggest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is up in arms against the EC because the commission is carrying on its mandate.

He claimed the former President, Mr. John Mahama in 2016 asked the then opposition party NPP to allow the EC to carry on its mandate as the commission was an independent body when his party raised the issue of a new voters register.

“What has changed this time round? The same people who said the EC is an autonomous body are today accusing the government of controlling the commission is that what they (NDC) did when in government.” He enquired

Chairman Osae, who doubles as a security expert claimed that his party does not need the help of the electoral body to win elections 2020. Our good works and policies, sound economic management, free SHS and many of our pro-poor interventions is what is winning us the election 2020 and not the help of any commissioner at EC. He added.
