MTN TurboNet to hit market

 

Telecoms giant, Mobile Telecommunication Network-MTN Ghana, has announced that it will soon launch the MTN TurboNet router.

The MTN TurboNet router, according to the company, is a key highlight of what it has described as the ‘customer-centric era.

The device (TurboNet) is a plug and play internet router which comes with high-powered external antenna and data SIM, which enables it to deliver fast internet in the company’s 4G locations.
It further provides instant high speed internet for up to 32 users at the same time.
Speaking at a Media and Stakeholder Forum in Accra last Monday, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Mr Selorm Adadevoh, underscored the importance of achieving technology excellence, saying that it was the driving force for achieving the right efficiencies across the spectrum to serve the customer’s needs.
As part of the company’s smartphone drive, he disclosed that the KaiOs Smart feature phone would be launched in this quarter while various MTN apps focused on self-care, music and messaging would also be launched to enable customers to enjoy easy access to services.
The catchphrase for celebrating the customer is “WeDey4 You. Everywhere you go.”
Data, digital, mobile financial services and voice products, he said, were expected to remain the drivers of the company, which now has more than 20 million customers.

Meanwhile, the company posted a 23.5% increase in revenue in 2018, compared to last year’s (2017’s) figure. Its total revenue rose to GH¢4.2 billion revenue in 2018, from GH¢3.4 billion in 2017.  Thus MTN Ghana recorded a profit before tax of over GH¢1 billion for 2018.
This represents a 10% jump over the GH¢980 million posted in 2017.
Data revenue, according to the company, increased by 30.2% year on year while digital revenue grew by 34.6%.

And that was driven by a 92% increase in data traffic to 137 850TB.
Further, MTN Mobile Money supported digital revenue growth and increased its contribution to total revenue to 17.7%.
Voice revenue increased by 15.1% year on year and contributed 46.0% to total revenue.
And based on MTN’s sterling financial results, the mobile operator declared a dividend of 3%, bringing the total dividend to 5 pesewas, after that interim dividend of two pesewas in November.
This would result in total dividend payout amounting to GH¢1,313 million, declared for the year ending 31 December 2018 (2017: GH¢470 million, GH¢0.0437 per share).
This consisted of a special dividend of GH¢1,068 million paid to pre-initial public offering (IPO) shareholders and an interim dividend of GH¢245 million (GH¢0.02 per share) paid to post-IPO shareholders.

The number of active data subscribers in the same period was 6.4 million.

MTN Mobile Money (MoMo) continued its positive momentum, adding 17.8% more active MoMo subscribers from December 2017 to 8.4 million, supported by consistent service delivery across all channels.
MTN Ghana listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) on September 5, 2018 with the largest number of Ghanaian shareholding at 127,826.
At the end of December 2018, MTN Ghana’s market capitalisation was GH¢9.7 billion, making it the third largest primary listed company on the GSE.
The 2018 financials showed the subscribers reached 20.1 million.
Active data subscribers were 13.5 million while active mobile money subscribers were 13.6 million.
The company’s market share stood at 59.9% ending 2018. Mobile Money Business was up by 34.6 per cent, accounting for 24.8 per cent of its GH¢4.2 billion.
Speaking at an Editors’ Engagement in Accra yesterday, Mr Selorm Adadevoh, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), said in labelling 2019 as the ‘Year of the Customer’, the company would extend its technology leadership through LTE Advanced (Long-term Evolution) and 4G+.
He said the company would spend $160 million in improving network technology and Information Technology Systems this year to drive its efforts at giving the customer an optimal experience in business and social services.
