MP slams NDC activist

Former deputy Central Regional Minister and Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona East, Queenstar Pokuah Sawyerr, has blasted Dr. Martin Luther Obeng on Okokroko 96.9 FM that he will “sink low and low” until he changes his mind and decides to think positive about others.

According to Queenstar, she doesn’t understand why Dr. Martin Luther keeps throwing jabs at her for the defeat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2016 poll when she actually won her seat in 2016.

“Ashiwoeeee Martin Luther! Why would you continue to speak against me and leave the other MPs who lost their seats?  I won despite your dubious activities; you and your paymasters are ashamed. About 16 female contestants lost their seats, why would you target me Queenstar alone?, she questioned.

Reacting to why the NDC lost in Central Region, Queenstar explained that the loss of the party in the 2016 election was as a result of the wind of change that was blowing at the time.

“The loss of NDC in 2016 had no connection with any MP, NDC worked very hard, but just that the election this time didn’t favour the party, the wind of change just blew through,” she stated.

Queenstar Pokuah Sawyerr was responding to allegations made by the former District Chief Executive of Agona East, Dr. Martin Luther Obeng, on Okokroko FM Breakfast Show, Anopa Don with Osahene Kwame Dapaah.

Martin Luther Obeng had earlier on accused the Central Regional Chairman of the NDC, Allotey Jacobs, and former deputy Regional Minister, Queenster Pokuaa Sawyer, of causing the party’s defeat in the region during the 2016 poll.

According to him, the conducts of these two party bigwigs which were politically costly ensured the NDC’s humiliating defeated in the region.

The 2016 election saw the then opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) winning 19 of the 23 parliamentary seats in the parliamentary elections, with then governing NDC taking the remaining 4 seats.

Coming into the elections, the NDC held 16 parliamentary seats in the region to the NPP’s 7.

In Agona East, NDC’s Queenstar Pokua Sawyerr won with a slim margin by garnering 19,789 whilst NPP’s James Owusu Barnes secured 18,513.

Speaking to Akwasi Nsiah on Simiso on Kasapa FM, Martin Luther Obeng stated that both the party and government leadership in the region woefully failed in the discharge of their duties, accusing Chairman Allotey of intimidating other government appointees in the area at the time.

“The problems MMDCEs in the region were facing were numerous, but we did what we were capable of doing. It got to a time that Allotey Jacobs was intimidating the MMDCEs and it was unbearable. The sort of things that were going on and the threats that accompanied were too much, this was because some bigwigs wanted people to pander to their whims. I believe NDC has learnt big lessons from this,” he noted.

He added: “Pokua Sawyerr resisted the building of a school in Agona Duakwa with over 10000 population where we get over 4000 votes after the election and rather cited it at Namawora, a small village at the time election was approaching,” he indicated.
