A deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Mrs Barbara Oteng-Gyasi, who is also the MP for Prestea Huni-Valley, together with the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the area, Mr Mozart Kwaku Owuh, and staff of Prestea Huni-Valley Municipal Assembly, have commissioned an ultra-modern KG classroom block with auxiliary facilities at Peterporm, near Bogoso in the Western Region.
The new facility—which was sponsored by the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) with support from the MP—has facilities including kitchen, dining hall, staff common room, headmaster’s office, a mechanised borehole with overhead storage tank (poly tank), water closet toilet facility for both staff and children washroom, and a fully furnished furniture, TLMS and white marker boards.
Speaking in an interview with Today, Mrs Oteng-Gyasi said: “the Bible admonishes us to teach the child in ways he/she should go, that he/she won’t depart from it when he/she is old.”
“As an MP, I will continue to support Prestea Huni-Valley Municipal Assembly to send more KG building to wherever it will be needed.”
He said, the new facility will be hooked with free school feeding programme to continue to help the children remain in school and study.”
Mrs Oteng-Gyasi added that government “has introduced the double track as an interim measure to facilitate access to secondary education.”
He thanked the Divisional Chief of Paterporm, Nana Kwaku Appiah, for his unflinching support to the progress of the municipality, and appealed that the facility be protected and maintained for it to last long.
The MP noted that “when the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, gave us appointment, he told us [the MMDCEs] to ensure that quality education remained our priority, hence what you are seeing today is my commitment to the ideals of the President.
The project, with funding from DACF and MP personal donations, was completed within 6 months!”
For his part, Mr Mozart Kwaku Owuh said in 2019, three other communities namely Dwaben, Yareyeya and Bompieso are also going to benefit each from a similar facility you are seeing here, with sponsorship from the municipal assembly and the MP.”
He was full of praise for the MP, and Chairman Abiam Kuntu Danso, (NPP Prestea Huni-Valley Chairman), for the support.
The Municipal Director of Education for Prestea Huni-Valley, Mrs Vida Kwofie, was so happy for the facility and told PCD that, “with this facility, I don’t see how a child will not be happy in school.”
Nana Kwaku Appiah, through the chief linguist, prayed that Nananom should bless Hon. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi to “remain on the seat for more than 20 years, so that other communities will benefit from her good works. He also prayed for the MCE.
