The Coalition of Non-Governmental Organizations in Water and Sanitation (CONIWAS) has re-elected Mr Martin Dery and Mr Atta Arhin as its Executive Chairman and vice chairman respectively for another two (2) year term to steer the affairs of the coalition.
There were three other elected executives who are: the Northern Zone, Middle Zone and, Southern Zone coordinators.
Mr Dery, Mr Atta Arhin and the three other executives were elected at the coalition’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) which was held yesterday at Villa Cisneros, Sogakope in the South Tongu District of the Volte Region.
Speaking in exclusive interview with Today, Mr. Dery hinted that the second term of his administration will focus, much attention on developing the human capital base of the coalition to enable members explore innovative ways that will transform the sector into portfolios.
According to him building the human capital base of members has become necessary because improve knowledge, capacity, and spread of members is the surest way to achieve the needed change the coalition seek for.
He also said the coalition will intensify its advocacy drive in the coming months to ensure that government put in the required funding for an improve Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector.
The Executive Chairman of CONIWAS, however, called on citizens to also do their bit to improve their immediate environment.
Mr. Dery expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all members of CONIWAS for the trust that they have reposed in him and the other executives and promised to work diligently to merit that trust.
He also thanked UNICEF, IRC Ghana, World Vision Ghana and WaterAid Ghana, GWJN, and other partners for their immense support for CONIWAS over the years.
