Police patrol team in Tema in the Greater Accra Region, on Tuesday, May 9, have shot and killed a 35-year-old man, Patrick Attidokpo, at Tema Newtown.
According to the Tema Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Benefo Darquah, the police had a distress call from someone that he was under attack.
He said the caller claimed he had parked his car along the road and when he returned he found the deceased in the car.
ASP Darquah further said the caller confronted the intruder but another person joined in so it prompted the caller to inform the police.
He continued that the police then rushed to the scene and luckily met the caller and the alleged attackers.
He said the police managed to arrest the deceased although he said he resisted arrest.
According to the PRO, the deceased later bolted but luck eluded him and was re-arrested.
But in the attempt to re-arrest him, he (the deceased) snatched a gun from one of the policemen which compelled the other police man to shoot him.
Meanwhile, residents of Tema Newtown have attacked the Newtown Police upon hearing the death of Patrick whom they described as “very peaceful and calm.”
His family has therefore, appealed to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to investigate the matter and get justice for the deceased.
His body has since been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue in Accra.
