Land-guards kill Alrotech staff at Bortianor

A twenty-one-year-old worker of estate developing company, Alrotech Company Limited, Daniel Otu Amu, has been killed by land-guards while four other workers sustained severe cutlass wounds at Bortianor Red Top area in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region. 

 

The incident—which occurred on Monday, October 15, 2018, has since sparked serious fear and panic amongst the people in Bortianor Red Top area.

 

Following the development, the landowners together with relatives of the victims and management of Alrotech Company Limited have called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr David Asante-Appeatu, to ensure that sanity prevails in the area.

 

The mutilated body of the deceased, according to the police officers with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Krokobite police station, has since been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue in Accra, pending an autopsy.

 

The four other persons, who sustained cutlass wounds, are currently responding to medical treatments at various hospitals in Accra.

 

Today gathered that the police officers from Krokobite police have arrested six suspects after eyewitnesses identified them in Kokrobite and are currently in a police cell at the Kokrobite police station, assisting the police in their investigations.

 

The suspects on the run are Tackie Tetteh, Kwei Mensah, AB, Ayitey Lion, Joe, and Tackietse.  They are believed to have attacked the workers of the Alrotech Company Limited who were on their normal patrol duties of inspecting lands they have sold to individuals and organisations in the area.

 

Today was reliably informed that the patrol team of the company upon seeing the land-guards who posed as labourers developing the land requested for the documents from the land-guards.

 

Today understands that the labourers cum land-guards were armed with machetes and cutlasses, which they used in chasing the workers of the company but in their attempt to flee, Daniel Amu was butchered to death at the site while the others sustained cutlass injuries.

 

The eyewitnesses told Today that after an initial confrontation between the workers of the company and the land-guards, the latter later emerged from the bushes and visited cutlass attacks on the workers of the company.

 

The lifeless body of Daniel Amu, they said, was found mutilated at Bortianor.

 

Senior police officers at the Krokobite Police Station in Accra confirmed the incident to Today and stated that six persons have been arrested in connection with the attack.

 

“We have been to the scene and we have seen what had happened at the scene. The mutilated body of the deceased on Tuesday, October 15, 2018, was taken to the police morgue and certain names including Tackie Tetteh, Kwei Mensah, AB, Ayitey Lion, Joe, and Tackietse have been mentioned to us…for now six arrests have been made while many suspects are on the run,” the police officers stated.
