Journalist murdered in cold blood as police begin investigations

Bekwai District Police Command has begun investigations into the gruesome murder of a popular journalist in Bekwai in her room on Sunday, April 15, 2018.

DESS FM’s Lead News Caster, who doubles as the station’s Front Desk Executive, Ama Agyeiwaa Kodie, was allegedly murdered by a yet-to-be identified assailant.

The Bekwai District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Edward Boateng, who confirmed the incident to this reporter, said the police are ‘delving closely’ into the matter and would arrest the perpetrators soon.

He however, declined any further comment.

A statement signed and issued by the Manager of the radio station, Mr Gordon Donkor, confirming the death of their lead news caster said: ‘We are with a heavy heart to announce that our Lead News Caster/Front Desk Personality at DESS FM, Ama Agyeiwaa Kodie (Portia), has been murdered in cold blood in her room on Sunday, 15th April, 2018.”

“She was found in a pool of blood at her residence in Mr. Bentil’s building (Green Annex) Bekwai around 6:00pm.

Police have commenced investigations and are appealing to anyone with any information on that barbaric act to assist them in their investigations,” the statement ended.

Meanwhile, the announcement of the suspected murder of the news caster who is quite popular in the Bekwai municipality and its environs has sparked unstoppable weeping in the town as tens rushed to the premises of the community radio station wishing to hear that it was a hoax.

“I am coming to ask the workers whether what we are hearing on air is true, but I want them to tell me that they are just joking so that I will go home in peace,” an avid DESS FM listener, Obaa Yaa, told this reporter amid tears.
