A flag-bearer aspirant of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Goosie Tanoh, has appealed to the delegates of the party to elect a candidate who has the ability to organise and connect with the grassroots for victory.
He attributed the NDC 2016 election defeat to the lack of vibrancy at the grassroots of the party amidst apathy among some party members.
Mr Tanoh, addressing delegates of the party at separate meetings at Sunyani, Brekum, Dormaa-Ahenkro, Tain, Techiman, Kintampo, Yeji, Atebubu, Nkoranza among others during a campaign tour to the Brong Ahafo Region, pointed out that he was the right person to reinvigorate the grassroots members who have been neglected by the party’s top hierarchy.
He reiterated the need to reward the grassroots members when the party was in power. Goosie Tanoh in his address denounced vote-buying and corruption, and encouraged delegates to support the efforts at re-energising the grassroots by paying their party dues to support activities of the party both in government and out of government.
“Vote for me, I am a grassroots man. Grassroots is in my blood, throughout my life, I have sacrificed to uplift and empower the less-privileged in our society. I am not saying these things just to win an election, it is my life, I started mobilising people at age 19 during my university school days,” Mr Tanoh told delegates at Pru East and West Constituencies yesterday.
Mr Tanoh hinted that if the NDC grassroots insist on a clean campaign devoid of vote buying among others, the party would become attractive to the core constituency of floating voters who, according to him, determine the outcome of presidential elections in Ghana.
There was a genuine call from tens of thousands of branch and constituency executives of the party for Mr Tanoh to win the election.
#teamGOOSIE2020’s campaign attracted appreciable attendants from several branch and constituency executives who voluntarily endorsed the candidature of Goosie Tanoh as flagbearer of the party for 2020 election.
According to branch executives of the party in the Brong Ahafo Region, the NDC party was at a crossroad and needed an experienced and committed person like Goosie Tanoh whom they described as a custodian of the party’s ideology to rebrand and restore integrity in the party for victory 2020.
Branch executives from the region, therefore, assured the “Rawlings boy” of maximum support to beat other aspirants to win the contest.
They remained hopeful that Goosie Tanoh, a founder member of NDC, will restore the old glory of the party, judging from his vision and programmes for the party’s redevelopment, especially grassroots participation in decision-making and empowerment.
“Goosie is so handsome, he remind us of J.J. Rawlings. I will vote for him,” a branch treasurer at Sunyani East constituency said.
“Goosie is our father, his fight to lead the NDC is ours, we shall work to ensure his victory” Jaman Constituency chairman told delegates after he declared his support for the candidature of Mr Tanoh.
He continued: “we cadres know Goosie can do the job so we shall work day and night to get more votes for him.”
A branch chairman at Techiman constituency said: “I am voting for Goosie because he is a cadre and I feel he will empower us when he becomes our leader.”
“I am voting for Goosie because he is a committed person, believes in grassroots empowerment,” a constituency women organiser at Sampa stressed.
“Victory is yours, we have taken over your campaign at Pru East, Pru East Constituency Chairman, Peter Nyakpaab, assured.
Delegates praised Goosie Tandoh for his boldness in politics.
Goosie Tanoh is currently touring the Brong Ahafo Region to canvass for votes ahead of 26th January, 2019 date set aside by the party to conduct the election which is being contested by seven high profile personalities in the party.
He is expected to wrap up his 5-day tour in the region on Monday, 24th December, 2018 and head to the Ashanti Region.
