Himan Students Union (HSU) in the Prestea-Huni Municipality of the Western Region has presented a citation to Golden Star Resources Prestea-Bogoso Limited (GSRPBL) for being a partner in developing the human and capital resources of the Himan community.
The gesture was part of the union’s annual youth festival to honour the company for fulfilling its some corporate social responsibilities over the years in the area.
According to the union, from the inception of the gold mine in 1992, the company has engaged in a lot of corporate social responsibilities aimed at developing its host communities.
Himan, which is one of its host communities, has benefitted from projects such as social centres, a community library, pipe borne water, scholarships, direct and indirect employment opportunities within the mine.
The greatest challenge bedevilling the Himan youth is the high rate of unemployment as a result of the ban on artisanal mining.
It is the humble appeal of the union to the company to create more working opportunities for the youth.
Also, it provides internship and attachment opportunities for students during the long vacation to equip them with the requisite knowledge needed in the corporate world.
