FOR some time now, premiership has not been getting sponsorship. This was not the case in some years back when we used to have companies like Ghana Telecom (now Vodafone), Accra Brewery Company (ABC) now Accra Brewery Limited among other companies sponsoring the domestic league.
A lot of factors may have accounted for this trend. Critical amongst these factors is the unattractiveness of our domestic league. In the 80s, 90s and early 2000s, the Ghana Premiere League (GPL) was so attractive and interesting that companies felt motivated to sponsor.
THIS was the period where supporters could be marching in groups to watch their clubs play. The patronage was so huge that companies which sponsored the leagues at the time got the necessary mileage that they wanted.
CURRENTLY, that is not the case. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is finding it difficult to get companies to sponsor the domestic league. That is why Groupe Nduom needs to be commended for its support for our domestic football.
IN the year 2015, GN Bank, a subsidiary of Groupe Nduom, signed a three -year contract with the Ghana Football Association, to sponsor the Division One League over the period. The package boosted the Division One League, which for so many years was not getting a sponsor.
YET again Groupe Nduom has sponsored the GFA Startimes Gala which matches were all played at the Nduom Sports Stadium in Elmina, Central Region.
IT is in the light of the above that Today is using this medium to commend Groupe Nduom for its efforts towards improving the level of football in this country.
WE equally encourage other companies to support the development of sporting disciplines in this country. While calling on companies to help in the light of the above, it is imperative that GFA comes out with a football package that will entice companies to sponsor our domestic league.
